Story Highlights

Key project moments

Designs of prototypes approved and order placed within 2 weeks from the point of first contact with Vention

The prototype robot stations were delivered within 8 days, representing a 5x faster lead time than alternate suppliers

Vention’s modular parts allowed Moon Surgical to assemble the prototype robot stations within 2 days

Working with Vention amounted to a 6x cost-saving for Moon Surgical compared to other quotes

The Problem

Tight deadline to develop prototypes suitable for a clinical study

Moon Surgical is developing a next-generation surgical robot. They needed three different prototypes of robot stations to conduct clinical studies to determine the most appropriate size and functionality for procedures. The impending clinical study deadline meant that the rapid design and deployment of these prototypes were paramount.

Jad Fayad, Senior Systems Engineer

"“When we got in contact with Vention, we were on a tight deadline that alternative suppliers already couldn’t meet. We needed 3 prototypes that could work with our custom parts and that could be delivered within 8 weeks. The service we got from Vention was exceptional. Within 3 weeks, we were able to design and deploy our prototypes in our facilities.” "

The Project

Robot station prototypes to aid the positioning of surgical equipment in operating theatres

Moon Surgical uses two robotic arms to help surgeons conduct their procedures. These robots need to be mounted on stations with motorized translation stages that are easily maneuverable to allow them to be positioned according to the surgeon’s preference. Once achieved, the stations then must be immobilized for the procedure.

The Results

Deployed robot station prototypes 5x faster and 6x cheaper than alternate suppliers

Moon Surgical ordered their prototypes and the products were delivered within 8 days. Vention’s modular parts and custom assembly instructions meant that deployment thereafter was fast and simple.

Moon Surgical was able to beat its 8-week deadline and proceed with Verification & Validation (V&V) testing ahead of their clinical studies. Surgeons will now have full autonomy over the positioning of the robotic arms during surgery, which helps them achieve the best possible outcomes for their patients.
